All the Light We Cannot See
This is one of my favorite books for several reasons:
Foremost, the choice of characters, contrasting the disability of a blind girl with that of a ultra-talented German youth and a rapacious Nazi seeking the Sea of Flames, a diamond with the fabled ability to heal and prolong life, is a memorable contrast.
Another unique plot element is of a loving father who builds a replica of Marie’s neighborhood, not only in Paris but also in St. Malo (where they go to live with Marie,’s uncle) so she cane use her cane to walk outside.
Mostly I enjoy the writing. I have read it more than once and I still have not found a cliche. Usually, writers—me included—can’t write 500 words without using one!
The film version, available on Netflix, although well done cannot do it justice.
